Drink-In Spring with Our Mandarin Rosewater Agua Fresca5.6.17
With winter finally in our rear-view, chilly beverage season is fast-approaching if not already upon us (all depending on the day, really). While weekday lunches may not be optimal for beer or wine, our new spring menu brings with it Mandarin Agua Fresca — which, as luck would have it, is now available at all VERTS locations.
Spanish for “cool waters”, agua frescas are relatively simple in their composition (making them a decent alternative to your average soft drink): these blends usually consist of fruit juice and water mixed with a bit of sugar for sweetening, and little else. Some say these concoctions can be traced all the way back to the Aztecs, who would use them to stay refueled on the journey from their farms to Tenochtitlan — better known today as Mexico City.
Funny enough, the inspiration for our take comes from our Culinary Director‘s own time traveling in Mexico, which he came upon while perusing the local food markets. He created his own twist by adding rose water (as it’s a commonly used ingredient in Mediterranean desserts & would offer a unique spin on the traditional staple). The rose water itself is super fragrant and brings out a different element of sweetness than what you’d normally experience in traditional Latin America. Give it a go on your next trip in to see us, and let us know what you think once you do!
